12 I am applying to Program C and have not fulfilled the clinical clerkships as required by the MBC, hence am unable to be issued a Post Graduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL). Decisions will be determined on a case by case basis. Applicants applying to Program C are required to have a valid PTAL as it is a requirement for applying to California residency programs. Decisions will be made considering the clerkship that is deficient.
13 I have taken & failed only one USMLE. X
14 I have taken & failed more than one USMLE. However, I have not failed more than two USMLEs. Decisions will be determined on a case by case basis. Factors considered are scores you received on your failed exams, dates exams were taken, number of failed exams. (Example: If you have failed the USMLE Step-1 & Step-2 CS but have passed the USMLE Step-2 CK you are encouraged to apply.)
15 I am an applicant to Program B living outside of the State of California & will relocate to Los Angeles to establish State of California residency. X For applicants to Program A living outside of California, we recommend that you pass the USMLE Step-1 on your own and apply to our Program B. Effective August 1, 2008, we will not consider out of state applicants to Program C.
16 I will apply only to Family Medicine Residency Programs in the State of California. X

We encourage medical students interested in our program to become familiar with our program and requirements, however application review will be granted to those who have received their degree.

Eligibility Requirements

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident or Refugee Status
  • Please note: UCLA's IMG Program cannot assist you in obtaining immigration visas
  • At least 6 months of residence in the State of California prior to admission into program. If accepted into the program, you must live in the Los Angeles area.
  • Fluency in both oral and written English and Spanish, bicultural competency in U.S. American and Latin-American cultures.
  • Graduated from medical school or completed a residency training program within the past 5 years (A case-by-case exception can be granted should a candidate evidence exceptional, updated clinical skills or stellar NBME/USLME test scores).
  • Medical school appears on the Medical Board of California website.
  • Meet all requirements to obtain the Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL), also known as the California Letter, which includes possessing a Social Security number. Please refer to the document published by the California Medical Board and see the section on PTAL.
