Alternative Summer Programs for UCLA Students

In the past years, UCLA has provided little information to first year students about their options for clinical and research opportunities during the summer between first and second year. Although STTP is a great option for students who want to do research at UCLA during the summer, the Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) decided to provide more information about other opportunities that include clinical experiences, alternative research options around the nation, and international opportunities. This is a rough copy of some of the opportunities that will be part of the list which will eventually be posted on the FMIG website. Please take the time to skim over your different options, trying to keep an open mind about the different opportunities that are out there. Many of these opportunities are not necessarily in Los Angeles and will give the students the option of getting away from Los Angeles for the summer. There are a few websites posted under international opportunities. Take the time to look at these websites, as a couple of the websites have long lists of different international organizations providing summer programs to medical students. Remember, many of the applications are due starting February so it is worth getting a head start and looking now! If you know of any other summer programs that are not listed, I would appreciate if you would please email them to me (giving the information in the same format as below) at amkhosropour@ucla.edu.
