29 May 2008 - Linda Thai Receives Department's First Sanford Bloom and David Satcher Award. The award is given to the UCLA graduating senior entering the field of Family Medicine who best exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding Family physician: clinical excellence community service, leadership, and a personal commitment to caring for patients and their families.

Linda Thai, a first generation Vietnamese American, completed her undergraduate studies at UCLA and will be moving onto residency at the University of California, Irvine. While Linda is still undecided about the type of practice she wishes to pursue, she remains dedicated to helping families with their healthcare needs. Congratulations Linda!

Excerpt: "The pilot program -- developed by Patrick Dowling, a professor of family medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, and Michelle Bholat, a physician -- over 14 months prepares medical school graduates in Latin America for U.S. medical board examinations..."

8 Jan 2008 - Rise Seen in Trafficking of Enhanced Ecstasy (NY Times). Excerpt: "Steven J. Shoptaw, a professor of family medicine and a methamphetamine expert at the University of California, Los Angeles, drew the same conclusion, citing a doubling of the street price of methamphetamine nationwide as a result of tight supply."
