» Family Medicine 3rd Year Clerkship Guide
Student Responsibilities
- Attend all clinical sessions assigned to you at your designated site. This may include one call evening per week.
- Attend all didactic sessions on Friday at UCLA. If you miss any of the Friday didactic sessions, you will need to make up for this absence by writing a 3 page paper on the topic you miss, one paper for each half-day.
- If you are unable to attend any didactic or clinical sessions, you must obtain permission from one of the course directors or coordinators. Please call 310-825-1048 or email Dr. Stangl.
- Read the new edition of the required textbook. Much of the final exam will be based on the fourth edition of the Sloane textbook. However, most importantly, you will learn more medicine if you reinforce your clinical experience with in-depth knowledge acquired through additional reading and self-directed learning.
- Prepare a case study write-up or give a case study PowerPoint presentation from your clinical experience that highlights at least one of the clerkship's learning issues. Must turn in on the last day in order to take the final exam.
- Complete the clerkship and preceptor evaluation forms online.
- Go through all the Interactive Dermatology cases on the Internet.
Disclaimer - We are a pluralistic society and the practice of medicine is not a hard science. You will be exposed to different styles of practice even among physicians of the same specialty. Ambiguity and uncertainty are formidable obstacles which never totally disappear. Please speak to Dr. Stangl if you feel that you have encountered a mismanaged patient or an ethical problem.
