This list is taken from a local family medicine residency. It represents the array of procedures required/recommended for a typical family medicine resident. The following procedures are required for graduation. (The number in parenthesis refers to the minimum number of times the procedure should be performed.)

  • Colles' Type Fracture Reduction
  • Chest Tube Insertion
  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy w/ biopsy vacuum extractor
  • Post-Partum Tubal Ligation
  • Primary Cesarean Section
  • Lymph Node Biopsy
  • Cricothyroidotomy
  • Temporary Pacemaker Insertion
  • Arterial Line Insertion
  • Vaginal Delivery using forceps
  • Vaginal Delivery utilizing silastic
  • Episiotomy Repair (3rd/4th degree)
  • Reduction of Glenohumeral Dislocation
  • Saphenous Vein Cutdown (adult and child)
  • Culdocentesis
  • Vasectomy
  • Hysteroscopy
  • Hemorrhoid thrombectomy/ligation

The following procedures are not monitored, however, proficiency is presumed upon Family Medicine residency completion.

  • Anterial nasal packing for epistaxis
  • Removal of foreign body (superficial from eye)
  • Ingrown Toenail Excision
  • Laryngoscopy, Direct & Indirect
  • Splint application
  • Arterial Puncture
  • Cerumen removal
  • Cyrosurgery of Skin Lesions of scalp electrode and intrauterine toco
  • Electrodessication & Curretage of Skin Lesions
  • Electrocardiogram Interpretation
  • Slit Lamp Examination
  • Venipuncture
  • KOH, Normal Saline Analysis
  • Urinalysis
  • Culture Reading & Interpretation
  • Gram Stain
  • Fetal Monitoring including Internal Placement
  • Removal of ear foreign body
