The mission of the Center is to promote prevention and treatment of chronic health conditions, especially in communities with healthcare disparities. The Center integrates scientific and technological advancements from the best in academia with the strength and practicality of communities, in its efforts to conduct research, to engage health service partners in the use of innovative treatment options, and to disseminate prevention tools. The CHPDP, directed by Dr. Steve Shoptaw, hosts projects of the Department of Family Medicine, Behavioral Epidemiology Research Group (UCLA School of Public Health), Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (UCLA Semel Institute), Center for HIV Identification, Prevention and Treatment Services (UCLA Semel Institute), Network for AIDS Research in Los Angeles (UCLA AIDS Institute). Located at the intersection of Wilshire and Westwood Boulevards, the Center functions as a hub for interdisciplinary collaborative research promoting health and prevention in the Greater Los Angeles region.
