The Mission of the UCLA Department of Family Medicine
- to educate medical students, residents, and practicing physicians.
- to provide excellent health care in a number of diverse clinical settings.
- to perform research in health services, education, and clinical medicine relevant to Urban Family Medicine.
In response to the growing disparities in health care that exist among immigrant families and minority populations in large urban centers such as Los Angeles, the UCLA Department of Family Medicine seeks a leadership role in the development of family medicine education and comprehensive community based primary care services that meet the needs of the community and nation. This will be accomplished through:
- student and resident educational programs that provide training in both a university medical center setting as well as in a public hospital and community clinics;
- structured residency training programs in family medicine, Preventive medicine and occupational medicine;
- fellowships in health services research and sports medicine; and
- model practices at the medical center and in underserved neighborhoods.
