Thank you for your interest in the UCLA Family Medicine Residency Program. Please review our entire residency website to learn more about our unique training program. After 20 years in residency education, I know that our program offers the best of all worlds in that our training sites include the Santa Monica–UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital, a community institution with a 42 year history of training family medicine residents and Olive View–UCLA Medical Center, a public teaching hospital with a mission to serve the underserved.
My overall goals for the program include:
Consistent with these goals, we have continuity clinics at two sites:
Santa Monica: Our UCLA Family Health Center serves a racially and ethnically diverse population, including many university employees as well as families from the local community. Most patients have public or private insurance; some are medically indigent. This site seeks to train physicians for the broader community as well as to prepare future family medicine educators.
Mid Valley: Our Mid Valley Comprehensive Health Center site is based in a new county clinic located in the federally designated underserved community of Van Nuys, in the heart of San Fernando Valley. It serves a diverse, medically indigent population that is predominately Latino and immigrant. It seeks to train family physicians for the broader community with an emphasis on the underserved as well as public policy.
At both sites, we will be providing an on-going practice management curriculum as well as continue to build medical homes for each and every one of our patients.
I hope I was able to spark your interest in our program. Please feel free to contact me at dsur@mednet.ucla.edu with any questions you may have. I look forward to learning more about you and your career goals.
Sincerely,
